PEOPLE LAUGHING RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘SUFFOCATING’

OUT 1ST MAY 2026

People Laughing return with their third single, ‘Suffocating’, a spiritual successor to their debut, ‘One Thing’. Written by frontman Matt Grocott, it explores obsessive infatuation, following a protagonist fixated on someone just out of reach, their yearning gradually tipping into unstable behaviour. A bright, hook-driven power pop anthem, ‘Suffocating’ blends jangly guitars and layered vocal harmonies with nods to 60s pop groups like The Beach Boys and The Beatles, alongside the melodic edge of mid-to-late 90s post-grunge.

Fronted by songwriter Matt Grocott, alongside drummer Luke Hallam and bassist Ollie Carnell, People Laughing are shaping a sound built for immediacy and live impact. Though a new project, the band bring strong experience: Grocott previously fronted The Shrives, produced by Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, while Hallam and Carnell bring years of touring from Nottingham indie outfit Black Cats and Magpies.

Their rapid rise has already seen them secure a slot at Splendour Festival, receive continued BBC Introducing support, and be named by LeftLion Magazine as one of Nottingham’s bands to watch in 2026. The band also held a three-date residency at Rescue Rooms across February, March and April, and will appear at Dot to Dot Festival in Nottingham on Sunday 24th May 2026.

‘Suffocating’ is available on all major platforms from 1st May 2026.
