PEOPLE LAUGHING RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE ‘ONE THING’
OUT 9 JANUARY 2026
First live show: 25 January 2026 — Rescue Rooms, Nottingham
People Laughing are a brand new rock band from Derbyshire, releasing their debut single One Thing on 9 January 2026. Built around emotionally direct songwriting and powered by a tight, hard-hitting rhythm section, the track marks the opening chapter of a project designed for scale. Big hooks, real feeling, and a sound made to hit hardest live.
Driven by in-your-face drums, melodic basslines and ratty, distorted guitars, One Thing captures the restless uncertainty of wanting clarity from someone who’s emotionally unavailable. It’s a song about asking the question you already know the answer to, but needing to hear it anyway. Raw, confident and unapologetically direct, the track balances vulnerability with a chorus built for rooms full of people.
Written by frontman Matt Grocott, One Thing showcases a songwriter unafraid of emotional tension or payoff. The band formed after Grocott shared early demos with drummer Luke Hallam, who immediately recognised their weight. Joined by bassist Ollie Carnell, the trio locked into a sound defined by hard-hitting drums, cool basslines, ratty guitars and distorted vocals - modern rock with serious live intent.
Despite being a new band, People Laughing arrive with pedigree. Grocott previously fronted The Shrives, while Hallam and Carnell bring years of live experience from previous projects. Together, they’ve formed a band focused less on soft launches and more on impact.
People Laughing will play their first live show on 25 January 2026 at Rescue Rooms, offering the first chance to see the band translate their songwriting and chemistry into what they care about most. Packed rooms, big moments, and a growing community around the music.
One Thing is available on all platforms from 9 January 2026.
